Creative beginnings for tiny tots

Classes

“Every child is an artist.

The problem is how to remain an artist when he grows up. “

Pablo Picasso

ART IN HAND emphasizes developmentally appropriate practice in an art program designed to nurture each child’s innate creativity through stories, exploration, and art-making, all with an  emphasis on discovery and the joy within the process.

Each week, an interactive story time will inspire creative exploration in drawing, painting, collage, sculpting or mixed media construction inspired by nature and the colors and textures of the season.

Our developmental approach will stimulate the senses, spark imaginations and support emerging language, social and problem-solving skills. Most of all tots and their grown-ups can be creative, have fun and make the mess away from home!

Come in from the cold and enjoy our Winter Session full of stories and art-making that reflect the colors, textures, sensations and wonders of the wintry world around us.

In the spring, our art will blossom as we investigate roots, shoots, hatchlings, and many more exciting discoveries to be made this time of year.

Make a splash with us in the summer as we are inspired by the sensations of the sea and shore.

Join us for an artful autumn, as we are inspired by the sights, sounds and textures of the changing world around us.

Classes are held year round at the following locations:

Herndon Community Center

Falls Church Community Center

Durant Center, Alexandria

These are parent-child classes for children of all levels and abilities.  Sibling groups welcome.

    • We are mid-session right now, but a new winter session will start in mid/late January, and we offer classes on Tuesdays and Wednesday mornings in Alexandria, at the Durant center. You can take a look at the schedule at http://www.alexandriava.gov/recreation The times will be the same during the winter session as they are during the current fall session. The new program guide should be out by early December. Hope to meet you and Darryn soon!
